Maddy Rain
Entertainer
He tears himself apart
Rips his chest in two
The audience gasps
The audience laughs
At his beating heart
He wears no clothes
But he wears a mask
To cover his true face
As he shows you
Everything in between
He has a mask for
Every mood
Every season
But his face is his
He keeps it safe
In a drawer by the door
He no longer knows it
Wouldn’t recognize it
In the crowd
But he needs them
Though they don’t need him
The audience
Like mice on a wheel
Keep his cogs turning
If they stop laughing
He’ll sink to the ocean floor
And return his body to the Earth
